A testament to Lanto’s assiduous character, and life-changing free golf lessons from Blacksburg Country Club’s Head Pro, Steve Prater, Lanto went on to play four years of Varsity Golf at Virginia Commonwealth University.

After graduating, Lanto turned professional and determinedly battled through a few years on mini-tours, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and the Korn Ferry (Web.com) Tour. Throughout this arduous time, Lanto began to pick up a lot of debt, and considered quitting the sport many times.

His financial luck shifted in 2014, when his good friend from the mini-tours, Will Wilcox, asked Lanto to caddie for him at The Greenbrier. He made a healthy winning from Will’s fourth place win, and gained back more confidence in his ability to play professional golf.

In 2017, his good fortune struck again, as he won the Nashville Golf Open Benefitting the Snedeker Foundation, while tying the course record. At the end of the 2017 season, Lanto placed 22nd on the Regular Season money list to secure a PGA TOUR card for the 2017-18 season. After another year on the Korn Ferry Tour, he achieved PGA Tour status for the 2019-20 season.

Within the first five tournaments of the 2019-20 PGA TOUR season, and only his 33rd PGA TOUR start, he was valiantly crowned Champion of the Houston Open. There is absolutely no stopping this resilient competitor.

Off the course, Lanto is an extremely philanthropic individual, with big goals to continue giving back to the community which raised him.
